Microsoft Word Document and Form Services

Working with Microsoft Word can be frustrating - especially if you've never had formal (or even informal) training. It can be even more frustrating for you or for your staff when working with a Word document that was not originally created in Word or created by you. There's a long running joke in the training and IT world that "there is no original legal document; there was ONE created 2000 years ago and we've been cutting and pasting from it ever since." How can you tell if you have old or "bad" documents? There are a couple of tell-tale signs:

  1. If you go to make "one little change" and the document shifts, reformats, renumbers or simply does something you don't want it to do.
  2. If you go do Tools > Options > Compatibility and the compatibility options are set to something other than the newest version of Word you are using. Many, many documents we see and work with are set to WordPerfect settings. This can cause many issues.
  3. Does your ruler bar look like this? If so, another warning that you don't have a "pure" Word document. Those tabs are left-overs from documents of the past, more possible issues.

Given the nature of creating legal documents, the complex architecture behind Word and given it's vulnerability to metadata, it's no wonder that there are so many poorly formatted (and frustrating to work with) documents out there. We take your favorite documents and forms and recreate them from scratch, format them properly, apply styles if needed and then show you how to work with them. Contact us to learn more about how we can make your documents shine!
